1- How to Make Perfect Rice (Simple and Easy)

Cooking on the Stove

If you cook rice for the first time, it might be a little bit tricky for you to cook on the stove instead of using electronic rice pots. But don't worry. Cooking rice is easy and simple as long as you know the process well and experiment with it for a few times.

Step One:

Put a certain amount of rice in a pot e.g. one or two cups of rice.

step Two:

Rinse the rice two or three times with cold water to get the dirt and starch out of your rice. You should soak it for 15-30 mins if you use brown rice. The idea is get soft fluffy rice.

Step Three:

Drain the rice each time you rinse it.

Step Four:

Measure the amount of rice and water. In general, use the ratio 1:2 (one cup of rice two cups of water). However, older rice needs more water than newer rice.

Step Five:

Put the pot of rice and its lid on the stove and turn on the heat to high. White rice takes approximately 20-50 mins to cook. Once the rice is boiled, remove the lid and lower the heat to simmer. Then, stir it a little bit using a spoon or chopstick. Leave it for 10-15 mins until the water is dry out completely and turn off the heat. At this stage, your rice will be fluffy and tender when you taste it.

Now that you rice is ready, fluff it gently with with a fork or chopstick and serve.

Cooking with electronic rice cooker

You might have to rinse your rice cooker if you just use it for the first time. Follow the instructions from step one to four above. For step five, put the pot in the cooker. Plug it and turn it the button to cook. Once it is boiled, it automatically lowers the heat to simmer which shows "warm" on the cooker (it is various depends on the type of cooker). Leave it for 10 to 15 minutes and your rice is ready to serve.
